New York City Mayor Eric Adams invited severe backlash from MLB fans in the city and beyond when he was seen sporting a baseball cap with both New York Mets and New York Yankees logo. The incident occurred during Monday's Colombus Days Parade when the mayor was spotted at the public event wearing a baseball cap with the logos of the city's rival MLB teams.

While some may justify it with the fact that both teams are competing in the championship series in their respective leagues, baseball fans took to social media to voice their anger:

“Worst out of all his many atrocities as mayor,” wrote one fan on X/Twitter. "He makes me sick," added another.

Despite the possibility of a Subway Series in the World Series this year, neither Yankees or Mets fans were seemingly too impressed with Adams' cap:

"That's worse than cheering for one team over the other," wrote @NFT_toedipper on X.
"I can't imagine anyone licensed made that legally," added @dentedcover.
"Add this to his list of crimes please," wrote @presidentjed.

Eric Adams is an American politician and former police officer who was elected the mayor of New York City in 2021 and took office shortly after New Year's Eve. A native of Brooklyn, Adams worked as a police officer in the New York City Transit Police and the New York Police Department for 22 years (1984-2006). He was then elected into the New York State Senate and served for four terms until 2013. Eric Adams went on to be elected the Brooklyn Borough President in 2013 before ultimately becoming the mayor of New York City.

Meanwhile, the Yankees and Mets have shared a rivalry for decades, being from the same city and constantly trying to outdo each other. With both teams making a deep postseason run this year, a Subway World Series is still on the cards. The last time the two teams met in the World Series was in 2000 when the Yankees came out on top with a 4-1 victory.

Throwback to when Mayor Eric Adams visited Yankee Stadium

Eric Adams has previously shown his love for baseball during his tenure in office by visiting Yankee Stadium last year. During his visit and a short appearance on YES TV, he spoke about the diversity of the city being its greatest strength.

Since his last visit there, Adams has had multiple controversies surrounding him, which has made him an unpopular figure in the city. Despite his show of love for both teams, MLB fans in the city were less than pleased with his choice of headgear.

Will the Yankees and Mets meet each other yet again in the World Series this year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
