The Roki Sasaki sweepstakes continue to heat up as teams keep an eye on Wednesday, the first day that the Japanese pitcher will be able to sign with an MLB club. The 23-year-old pitcher has made a name for himself in his home country by lighting up the radar gun while cementing himself as one of the most exciting players outside the majors.
As the date rapidly approaches, there is continued speculation about which team he will sign for ahead of the 2025 season. While it remains unclear where Sasaki will sign, fans are getting a clear image of where he will not play.
On Monday, sources close to the ongoing situation reported that the New York Mets, New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants are no longer considered the future destination for Sasaki. After this news broke, MLB fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the announcements.
"Yankees blown off by Soto and Roki love to see it" - One fans said of the Bronx Bombers being eliminated from the Sasaki sweepstakes.
"The Yankees need to quit wasting their time recruiting the Japanese players. They aren’t coming to New York" - Another fan posted on social media.
"Well....at least DJ and Stroman are still on the team..so there's that!! Bright side folks...lol...bright side!" - One more fan added.
Even though the Yankees, Giants and Mets have reportedly been eliminated from the Roki Sasaki sweepstakes, many fans were unsurprised since the pitcher has been so heavily linked to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
"He’s been a Dodger since birth" - One fan posted.
"Japan is the Dodgers minor league system now" - Another fan shared.
"Dude everyone knows he's gonna be a Dodger" - One more fan added.
Several teams that have met with Roki Sasaki remain in the hunt for his signature
While the New York Yankees, New York Mets and San Francisco Giants have been eliminated from the Sasaki sweepstakes, several teams have already met with him and remain in the running. The Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres have all already met with the pitching phenom.
Roki Sasaki was elite yet again in 2024 with the Chiba Lotte Marines. The potential superstar posted a tremendous 10-5 record with a 2.35 ERA and 129 strikeouts over 111.0 innings. He has all the makings of becoming a star in the majors as soon as he takes to the mound.
