The New York Yankees have been one of the most active teams of the offseason so far. Despite missing out on re-signing superstar Juan Soto in free agency, general manager Brian Cashman and the rest of the front office has wasted little time in rebuilding the roster.

Even after adding the likes of Max Fried, Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger, it appears that the Yankees are not done yet. The team has been linked to a number of different players in both free agency and the trade market. One of those players is Nolan Arenado, who has been made available by the St. Louis Cardinals.

That being said, according to MLB insider Joel Sherman, the reports that the Bronx Bombers were interested in acquiring Nolan Arenado were false. On the latest episode of "Pinstripe Post," Sherman said that it was simply an idea floated out by someone and it eventually caught fire.

"I will say that this entire offseason, even when people were overheated on the Arenado thing, that felt like totally modern-day bullshit, where one person writes it and it catches on like wildfire. But I couldn't find anybody with the Yankees who would say, 'yeah, we're interested in him,'" Sherman said of the Arenado rumors.

After the Bronx Bombers acquired Paul Goldschmidt from the St. Louis Cardinals, there was speculation that the two teams could swing another deal for Arenado. Marcus Stroman was a name that was brought up as a potential piece in the deal.

"I've got to follow my reportorial instincts and my work. Nobody was pushing hard on that. Nobody said, 'yeah, that's a thread you should go pull on a little bit and see what you find out,'" Sherman continued.

Even if the two sides agreed on a potential trade, Nolan Arenado's full no-trade clause in his contract would come in the way. If the Cardinals were looking to move Arenado this offseason, it will be up to the All-Star's desire to join certain teams.

The New York Yankees' third base situation heading into 2025 remains a topic of discussion

If the Yankees are truly not interested in bringing Nolan Arenado into the fold, manager Aaron Boone might need to rely on internal options to fill the void at third base. After Gleyber Torres departed the club in free agency, there is a belief that Jazz Chisholm Jr. could move to second base, leaving a vacancy at third.

If the Yankees do not make another significant move this offseason, the team could look to struggling veteran DJ LeMahieu as part of a platoon with Oswaldo Cabrera.

This may leave something to be desired as neither player has been a force at the plate in recent years. While the team could look at the free agent market for additional depth, they may look to their own roster members at third.
