There are multiple options for the New York Yankees to go about this offseason in order to fill one or two infield spots. Thanks to the acquisition of Cody Bellinger earlier this month and Jazz Chisholm Jr. (in 2024 trade deadline), the Yankees can go with a different combination and look forward to potentially signing either one or two from Pete Alonso, Alex Bregman, Christian Walker, and Paul Goldschmidt.

According to Jon Heyman's tweet on Saturday, Goldschmidt, 37, is "expected to choose a team soon," potentially on a short-term deal. The Yankees are among the teams that are interested, including the Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, and New York Mets.

Though Goldschmidt has a resume fitting to get into the Hall of Fame, at this stage of his career, some Yankees fans don't see him as a good acquisition.

"Why are we treating this like its Juan Soto," one fan posted.
"Please pass Yankees…." one fan commented.
"1 year that's it. Anything more than that is criminal for the Yankees," another wrote.
"He will be a Yankee. Brian Cashman never misses an opportunity to acquire a player that was good 5 years ago," another took a dig at Yankees GM.
"Wow if the Yankees miss him they will have to go over on Alonso," one fan added.
"He’s 37 what’s the big deal about him," another added.

MLB analyst believes Paul Goldschmidt would be a good upgrade over Anthony Rizzo

Contrary to fans' opinion, MLB insider Robert Murray thinks if the Yankees sign Paul Goldschmidt, who hit .245, 22 home runs, and 65 RBIs in 2024, it'll be an upgrade over current first baseman Anthony Rizzo.

In an appearance on "The Baseball Insiders" podcast, Murray let it be known why it might be in the Yankees' interest to pursue the veteran first baseman rather than going after prized free agents like Alonso and Walker.

"If you look at a Bregman type or a Christian Walker type, they have the qualifying offers attached to them, which could hinder the chances of the Yankees pursuing them," Murray said (9:22 onwards).
"This, I think, makes Goldschmidt a more intriguing option. I’m sure having another aging first baseman is not exactly what Yankees fans want to hear right now, but he would be an upgrade over Anthony Rizzo. I think he’d be a really good addition. Him being in New York, in that ballpark, would be a good thing for him. So, we’ll see. But yeah, they’ve got plenty of options to consider here," he added.
