The LA Dodgers have been facing tough times recently as many of their top players have been injured and are missing MLB action. One such star is Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who has been out since June 15 with a shoulder injury. However, it seems the team is set to miss its ace for longer than anticipated.
According to Los Angeles Times reporter Jack Harris, the Dodgers have decided to sideline their Japanese star and move him to the 60-day injured list. Yamamoto was first taken off and put on a 15-day IL after just two innings against the Kansas City Royals on June 15 after he suffered a strained rotator cuff in his right shoulder.
The Dodgers' $375 million offseason acquisition won't be eligible for activation until after Aug. 15. However, because he started playing catch just a couple of days before, it can only be anticipated that he wouldn't have made it back on the mound until the end of August anyway.
Before getting injured, Yamamoto had a pretty decent start to his first season in the MLB. He started 14 games for his team and had a 6-2 record, an ERA of 2.92, a WHIP of 1.07 and 84 strikeouts.
Dave Roberts shares positive update on Yoshinobu Yamamoto's injury
LA Dodgers manager Daver Roberts had a positive update on Yoshinobu Yamamoto's condition. The Japanese pitcher has been out for almost a month now, and fans are hoping to have the star back, especially during the team's current turbulent times.
Roberts said Yamamoto is throwing twice a week, playing catch and is not feeling any pain in his shoulders, which surely is a good sign.
“Yamamoto’s thrown twice this past week. He’s played catch out to 60 feet twice, and he’s supposed to play catch [Saturday]. There’s been no soreness, no pain. So he’s in a good spot,” Roberts said.
Per reports, Yoshinobu Yamamoto will require several minor-league starts before being removed from the injured list.
