Sportswriter Ken Rosenthal published an article on Tuesday about Manny Machado's actions as the San Diego Padres won Game 2 of the NLDS 10-2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The win tied the series at one game apiece.

During the game, Machado tossed a baseball towards Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts after his teammate Fernando Tatis Jr. was hit by a pitch from Jack Flaherty.

Rosenthal described Machado's throw towards Roberts as a "sinister sling", but fans were of the opinion that he exaggerated the ferocity of Machado's "retaliation".

Fans replied to Rosenthal's post on X, voicing their displeasure, as they felt like Rosenthal was trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.

"Sinister Sling? Add the video to the story and stop pandering for clicks."
"You should be ashamed of yourself," a fan said.
"Horrible take," another fan wrote.
"Trash Take. Trash Take," an incensed fan posted.
"This is a bad look. I hope all the people that read this article check out the video and see how sinister it really was," another fan posted.

Manny Machado praises Jack Flaherty for his performance despite argument

One of the major talking points of the Padres' resounding victory over the Dodgers on Sunday was the altercation between Padres third baseman Manny Machado and Dodgers starting pitcher Jack Flaherty.

The spat started after Flaherty hit Fernando Tatis Jr. with a pitch before a direct matchup took place when Machado stepped up to the plate. The pitcher ultimately struck Machado out.

Following the game, Machado spoke to the press, giving Flaherty credit where credit was due.

"He [Flaherty] made some good pitches, right? He made quality pitches, got me going, and he won that competition. He made his pitches. I couldn't deliver with that situation there, [with] runners on first and second, no outs, so he won that one for sure," Machado said. [0:10]
