Former Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Trevor Plouffe doesn't see a need to blame Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone for the New York Yankees' losing streak. Plouffe believes that it's the players who make it or break it on the field and not the management.

As such, Plouffe believes the players need to get back on track if they want their team to shine on the leaderboard just like it did at the beginning of this season.

"You can't be mad at Cashman just yet. If he doesn't do anything, then yeah, like then you can say, well, our GM isn't doing what he's supposed to be doing, which is providing us with a winning roster. As far as Boone, there's not much he can do. I saw a clip when they do Boone with Talking Yanks. Jimmy was asking about like the lackadaisical play and Boone wasn't ready to kind of sound off on his guys," Plouffe said.

He added:

"And I think that's the one area where a manager can make a difference. But really, in the end, the players got to get going, dude. Like, that's it. The players on the field are the ones that win and lose the game."

Brian Cashman wants the slump to get over now

The New York Yankees are in a freefall. After a soul-crushing 17th loss in 23 games, owner Hal Steinbrenner and GM Brian Cashman made a surprise visit to the team in St. Petersburg. The management wants to be there for the players, and boost their morale.

"Because of how we've been playing, I've decided to join us," Cashman said before Tuesday's game. "It's been a struggle, obviously. Thankfully we got out of the gates really strong, so hopefully that cushion will allow us to work through this hopefully sooner than later on because it's gone on long enough."

The New York Yankees find themselves in a precarious position, following a disastrous 16-21 stretch. The team fell from boasting the best record in MLB to sporting the worst since mid-June.

Brian Cashman remains with the team for the Tampa Bay Rays series with the Yanks. Meanwhile, Cashman will also keep an eye on potential trades before the trade deadline is over.
