Jazz Chisholm Jr. was recently voted as the most overrated player in baseball. The votes were anonymous and not unanimous, but Chisholm received more mentions than anyone else for the unfortunate title. Of course, he saw the results and decided to hit back at his critics, via Deesa Thosar of Fox Sports.
"If he really voted that I'm overrated that means you got something in your psyche, brother. I don't look at people that hard. I only look at people who are good, I'm sorry. So you call me overrated, I gotta be good," Chisholm said.
He added via Bleacher Report that he does not cast a vote for that category as he does not look at who might be overrated among his peers. LA Angels infielder Anthony Rendon was the second-most-voted player behind Chisholm. However, Rendon received less than half of his votes.
A main criticism of Chisholm has always been that his play does not match his behavior. He has an 'MLB The Show' cover appearance despite only one All-Star Game nod and his overall stats do not line up with his boisterous on-field behavior.
How Jazz Chisholm has done since swapping teams
The New York Yankees may have unlocked Jazz Chisholm Jr after the team swapped prospects for him at the MLB trade deadline. Not only has Chisholm played well during that span, but the Yankees have won more with him on the roster. After going through a slump, they now look like a new team.
Since the July 27 trade, Chisholm has recorded 1.1 fWAR, the ninth-most over that span. His wRC+ is 190, 19th among MLB hitters. His Fangraphs defensive rating is ninth-best, which includes debuting at third base as well as playing second and center field.
He has also added seven home runs, a .296 batting average, 11 RBIs, and four stolen bases. Chisholm's left-handed bat and personality have helped transform and revitalize what was once an extremely top-heavy lineup in the Bronx.
He may not have been considered a superstar before he landed in New York, but he's been playing like one since.
