New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. has a penchant for courting controversy with his flashy and flamboyant personality. Chisholm has often come under scrutiny for his choice of words when displeased, but he was full of compliments for rapper Latto.
Alyssa Michelle Stephens, known as Latto, is an acclaimed rapper and singer. Latto caught the attention of the Yankees' Bahamian superstar, evidenced by his tweet:
"@Latto you might be the most beautiful person I’ve seen in person in a long time 🤷🏾♂️😍," Chisholm tweeted.
Chisholm clarified his statement by commenting on the viral tweet, which has already garnered upward of 2 million views.
"If y’all seen her walk pass me the way I did 🫠," Chisholm Jr. commented.
Fans had fun with the Yankees star's tweet. Many used the Bronx Bomber's recent failures and some underwhelming stats of the Bahamian to suggest he doesn't have a chance with the rapper.
Latto has yet to respond, and it will be interesting to see if she does.
The story behind Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s name
Jazz Chisholm Jr. became an instant fan favorite when he burst on the MLB scene with the Miami Marlins. In addition to his slugging, Chisholm Jr.'s athleticism on the field and obvious personality made him a must-watch.
In addition to all of the above, his name was also an area of intrigue for many. The Bahamian revealed the story behind his name during an interview with MLB Network in 2020:
"My grandparents gave it to my dad and my dad just wanted to leave it there and he asked me to leave it there when I have my son. So, I don't know the origins of it, but my grandad does play the guitar," said Chisholm.
From Chisholm's words, his father may have gotten the name from his grandfather due to the latter's musical interest. It also looks like the then-Marlins star will name his son after him too.
When the Yankees acquired Jazz Chisholm from the Marlins, many believed the strict discipline in the organization would not sit well with the Bahamian All-Star. However, he has so far proved that idea wrong.
