The 2024 season has not gone as expected for the Toronto Blue Jays. After reaching the postseason last year, its roster looked primed to make another World Series run. However, with the regular season winding down, the team is outside the playoff picture.

With that stated, experts and analysts within the organization have begun looking towards the offseason. The Toronto Blue Jays front office, including president and CEO Mark Shapiro, has suggested running it back in 2025.

This idea seems to eliminate trading star infielder Bo Bichette, something former Miami Marlins president David Samson questioned on an episode of The Blair and Barker Podcast.

"What do you mean you're looking for Bo? You've got Bo and you're not winning with Bo [1:26:42]," Samson said in the episode

Samson believes Toronto should remain open-minded about trading any player on its roster. While the club has several stars, the team has underperformed, and a shake-up could be in the franchise's best interest.

"You have to take a realistic look at your team and be open to trading anybody on your team because you know the collection of guys that you have didn't get it done [1:26:49]." Samson continued.

Although the fates of Toronto's biggest stars remain in question, the team moved on from several of its veterans at the trade deadline. The Blue Jays traded Justin Turner, Danny Jansen and Yusei Kikuchi this summer.

David Samson suggests that Mark Shapiro's expiring contract could play a factor in the Blue Jays future

After a disappointing 2024 campaign, this offseason could be among the most important in franchise history. Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. could enter the final seasons of their contracts next season. However, Shapiro is entering the final year of his contract, which could affect the future of both players.

Samson suggests that Shapiro is looking at his future instead of what is best for the club.

"Off the field, he has been part of tremendous generating progress but as the president of baseball ops, I'm looking around at the money I've spent and the results I've gotten [1:18:50]" Samson said of Shapiro's situation.

Aside from his future, Shapiro and the Blue Jays front office need to answer two significant questions this offseason: Will they extend Vladdy, and will they trade Bichette?
