The Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a frustrating defeat at the hands of the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. The Rockies ended their three-game losing streak after a late fightback to keep themselves alive in the series with one game to go.
Rockies first baseman gave his team an early advantage with a three-run home run off the returning Bobby Miller in the first inning. But the lead didn't last long as Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani brought the visitors back into the game with a game-tying bases-clearing double in the second.
Freddie Freeman helped the Dodgers into a lead with an RBI single in the same inning. Jason Herward's two-run double further stretched it 6-4 in favor of the Dodgers.
However, the Dodgers bullpen failed to preserve the lead as the Rockies registered a walk-off win after Brenton Doyle's sacrifice fly.
The Rockies have been the worst team in the MLB this season with an underwhelming record of 26-48. Dodgers' loss to the worst team in the division sent the fans of other teams into delirium.
"YOU SPENT A BILLION TO LOSE TO THE ROCKIES?!"
"DEATH TAXES AND DODGERS FIRST ROUND EXIT," mocked another fan.
"Spent a billion dollars to lose to the Rockies," remarked an Astros fan.
The Dodgers fanbase wasn't too pleased with their team's loss either with some of them targeting Cavan Biggio, who made a crucial error to allow the Rockies a way back into the game.
"Captain Biggio needs a trip to the minors," wrote a fan.
Dodgers reliever Yohan Ramirez also caught strays from fans.
"What on earth makes y’all think Ramirez is a high leverage reliever?" wrote a concerned fan.
"Yohan sucks bro lmao," wrote another fan.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts updates on Teoscar Hernandez's early exit
While the defeat was disappointing enough for the Dodgers, the NL West leaders lost an in-form Teoscar Hernandez early in the game. Hernandez, who registered a three-run home run in the previous game, was removed in the seventh inning.
While fans wondered if the veteran player had sustained an injury, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts clarified it was just to give Hernandez a bit of rest.
The two sides will meet again on Thursday in the final game of the series, with the Dodgers hoping to bounce back with a win to clinch the series.
