Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler has admitted his adulation for Trea Turner's game during a recent presser.

He adjudged Turner as a 'tough out,' as reported by NBC Sports Philadelphia reporter John Clark, who tweeted:

“Honestly, he’s one of my favorite players to watch play in the big leagues. And I don’t have many of them. He is a tough out. When he gets on first base, he’s basically on third base already.” Zack Wheeler is glad he doesn’t have to face Trea Turner anymore."

That comes after the former LA Dodgers man signed an 11-year contract worth $300 million with the Philadelphia Phillies on Dec. 8 last year.

Wheeler, who signed with the Phillies as a free agent to a five-year, $118 million contract on Dec. 9, 2019, ended the 2022 season with 12-7 with a 2.82 ERA in 153 innings with 163 strikeouts over 26 starts.

In a successful 2022 season, he became the first Phillies pitcher to capture the NL strikeout title since Curt Schilling in 1998. He also ended second in the NL Cy Young Award voting behind and was a finalist for the 2021 NL Gold Glove Award as a pitcher.

Wheeler welcomes Trea Turner into a championship pedigree team, looking for somebody who can add strength to a serious World Series charge.

Trea Turner brings World Series-winning experience to Philly

Turner was selected by the San Diego Padres in the first round of the 2014 MLB draft and subsequently traded him to the Washington Nationals in 2015. He went on to play for the Los Angeles Dodgers and is now with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Turner won the World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019 and was voted an All-Star in 2020 and 2021. He was also an NL batting champion in 2021 and Silver Slugger Awardee in 2022, and made the All-MLB First Team & All-MLB Second Team in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
