Nick Pivetta might not be one of the biggest names available on the open market; however, he has been a steady professional throughout his MLB career. The 31-year-old from Victoria, British Columbia, is coming off a solid season for the Boston Red Sox, even though his win-loss record might not reflect it.

Over 145.2 innings in 2024, Pivetta posted a 6-12 record with a 4.14 ERA and 172 strikeouts. While Pivetta has always had an issue with surrendering runs, he has also developed into a solid strikeout artist, which has allowed him to remain in the rotation throughout his career.

The starting pitcher market is always busy, and even though there are more established superstars in free agency, such as Corbin Burnes, Pivetta could be available for a much more affordable contract. Although it remains to be seen where he will land, he should have no issue securing a contract this offseason.

Here's a closer look at 3 potential landing spots for Nick Pivetta in free agency

#1. Cincinnati Reds

The Cincinnati Reds have already expressed interest in bringing Nick Pivetta into the fold for 2025.

The Reds have continued to build up their roster in hopes of returning to the postseason for the first time since 2020. Bringing in a consistent and effective veteran such as Pivetta could help achieve that goal.

Last year, the Reds enjoyed a strong campaign from flamethrower Hunter Greene. However, the rest of the rotation struggled to perform at a consistent rate.

Pivetta might not be a superstar, but his production is consistent. The Reds could use Pivetta in 2025.

#2. Boston Red Sox

Could a reunion with the Boston Red Sox be in store for Nick Pivetta? The Red Sox have been looking to bolster their pitching rotation this offseason, having already acquired Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox.

Although they have already made additions to their staff, it would be in the White Sox's best interest to re-sign Pivetta, particularly given that their rotation remains largely untested.

#3. New York Mets

The New York Mets shocked the baseball community by signing Juan Soto to a 15-year, $765 million deal. Despite adding Soto, there are still several questions remaining around the team heading into 2025, specifically the starting rotation.

The Mets' pitching staff will be led by Kodai Senga this season; however, beyond him, the remaining pitchers leave much to be desired.

Nick Pivetta could be a steadying force for the Mets this season while also racking up strikeouts and providing quality innings. While owner Steve Cohen might prefer a superstar like Corbin Burnes, the team could look to Pivetta as an affordable alternative.
