Coming off a much needed series win over the Saint Louis Cardinals, the Royals will remain in Kansas City for a four-game, wrap around series with the New York Yankees. The Yankees are 4-6 in their last 10 games.
Starting off the series will be Jeremy Guthrie for the Royals, and Chase Whitley for the Yanks. Guthrie is 0-2 (thank the offense for that one) with a 1.80 ERA in his past three starts. In four major-league starts for Chase Whitley, he is 0-0 with a 2.37 ERA.

Up next for the 6:15 start on Saturday will be Danny Duffy and David Phelps. Duffy hasn’t had very good luck against the Yankees. He’s 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA. David Phelps has been slightly better against KC. He’s 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA.
Sunday's game will feature Ryan’s man crush, James Shields. Throwing for the Yanks will be Hiroki Koroda. Being from the AL east, Shields has battled the Yankees a fair amount of times. James is 8-15 with a 4.34 ERA against the Bronx Bombers. Kuroda is 1-2 with a 3.63 ERA lifetime against KC.
To close out the series will be Jason Vargas and Videl Nuno. Vargas is winless against the Bombers, with a 0-4 record. The Royals have never seen Videl Nuno, and this normally smells trouble for the Kansas City offense.
On Monday, the Royals will present Yankee captain, Derek Jeter with his farewell gift as part of his last trip to KC. Over the years, I have come to appreciate Derek Jeter, even though he plays for the Yankees. The only time I don’t appreciate him is when he is playing against the Royals. Jeter’s career stats against the Royals are :.328 average (178-for-543), 10 HR, 63 RBI, 58 BB, 67 K, 21 SB, 102 R, .837 OPS. I will not miss Jeter coming to KC, he always slaughtered KC pitching.
Coming in hot to the series against NYY will be the Royals. The Royals will look to keep the New York Jeters (as Ryan calls them) under control. I predict an even series, where the Royals will split 2-2. Should be a great one, and remember: It is absolutely okay to hate the Yankees.
