Originally formed as the Philadelphia Athletics in 1901, the team used this name till 1954 before they relocated to Kansas City in 1955 and rebranded themselves as the Kansas City Athletics, a name they used until 1967. Remarkably, in 1968, they relocated to Oakland and became the Oakland Athletics. Notably, they have been members of the American League (AL) throughout all three incarnations and have been members of the AL West Division since its formation in 1969.

The Oaks are considered as the third most successful team in the league as they have won nine World Series titles and are tied with the Boston Red Sox regarding the same. Besides this, they have also won the American League (AL) title fifteen times and the AL West Division title twice so far. Lastly, they make use of Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum as their homeground.
