The Pittsburgh Pirates are a professional baseball team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) and are members of the National League (NL) Central Division. Established in 1887, the Pirates have a rich history and are known for their five World Series championships (1909, 1925, 1960, 1971, and 1979). The team has played its home games at PNC Park since 2001.

The franchise was originally called the Allegheny Base Ball Club from 1882 to 1886, then the Pittsburgh Alleghenys from 1887 to 1890. Since 1891, the team has been known as the Pittsburgh Pirates. In addition to their five World Series titles, the Pirates have won nine National League pennants, nine National League East division titles, and five Wild Card berths. However, the team has not won a World Series since 1979, giving them the fifth-longest championship drought in MLB history, the longest pennant drought in the National League, and the longest League Championship Series appearance and division championship drought in all of baseball, as of February 2025.
