Born on April 16, 1955, Bruce Douglas Bochy is a French-American professional baseball manager and a former player. Bruce currently manages the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball (MLB).

Bruce was born in Bussac-Forêt, Charente-Maritime, France, to Melrose and Sgt. Major Gus Bochy. Bruce and his family moved to different cities owing to his father's service in the United States Army. They finally settled down in Melbourne, Florida, U.S., after constant traveling during his childhood.

Bruce attended Melbourne High School and pursued his graduation from the Brevard Community College (later known as Eastern Florida State College). He won a state baseball championship during his time in Brevard. After two successful years with Brevard, Bruce committed to playing baseball at South Alabama.

After turning down the Chicago White Sox, who drafted him first in the 1975 MLB draft, Bruce signed with the Houston Astros on June 3, 1975, after they selected him 24th overall in the first round of the 1975 Supplemental Draft. He played nine seasons in MLB as a catcher for the Houston Astros, New York Mets, and San Diego Padres.

After retiring as a player, Bruce became a manager of the teams. He managed the San Diego Padres for 12 seasons from 1995-2006 and led them to one World Series appearance. He was also voted the NL Manager of the Year in 1996. Bruce then managed the San Francisco Giants for 13 seasons from 2007 - 2019. He won three World Series Championships during his time in San Francisco. Bruce currently manages Texas Rangers, which he joined in 2022.

Bruce became the first European-born manager ever to win the World Series. He also holds the unique record of being the only manager in MLB to win at least 900 games with two different teams. He has roughly 2,900 (as of October 2023) career wins under his belt as a manager.

Who is Bruce Bochy's wife?

Bruce Bochy is married to Kim Seib. The pair were childhood sweethearts, having met each other while studying at the Brevard Community College in 1975. After a couple of years of being together, the couple married in 1978. Bochy and Kim currently reside in Poway, California, and Nashville, Tennessee.

Bruce returned to MLB in 2023 as the manager of the Texas Rangers after announcing his retirement after the 2019 season. While he was delighted to be back, Kim was much less enthused. Bruce hilariously recounted her reaction in an interview recently:

"What is it you don't like about your life? You're fishing, you're golfing," Bruce quoted his wife, Kim Seib.

Bruce Bochy Kids

Bruce Bochy and Kim Seib have two sons, Greg and Brett. Both sons, just like their father, played baseball too. Greg was in the San Diego Padres system for several years in the minor league but unfortunately didn't make it into the majors. Brett, the younger son, was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 20th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft. He joined his father's team, making Bruce the seventh manager in MLB history to manage his own son.

He made his MLB debut on September 13, 2014, making his father the first manager ever to give the ball to his son right out of the bullpen. Brett played 3 solitary games for the Giants that season, compiling an ERA of 5.40. Despite not participating in the Giants' postseason run, Brett was still eligible to receive the 2014 World Series championship as a part of the Giants.

Internationally, Brett has represented the French national baseball team for the 2021 World Baseball Classic qualifier in Arizona. Bruce was, incidentally, the manager of the team then.

Brett retired from baseball after the 2015 season. He went on to attend graduate school after that and has worked as a real estate agent in the San Diego area ever since.

Bruce Bochy’s Family

Bruce Bochy was born to Melrose and Sgt. Major Gus Bochy, in Bussac-Forêt, Charente-Maritime, France. Sgt. Major Gus Bochy served in the United States Army as a non-commissioned officer.

Bruce has three siblings. Bruce's older brother, Joe, was also a baseball player. He was a one-time catcher in the Minnesota Twins farm system. He then went on to work as a professional scout for the Padres and Giants.
