The left field is a position full of stars in the MLB. It's one of the more overlooked positions since it's not as deep as the right field and not as important as the center field, but there are some studs who man left field every year. Here are the best of the best for 2025.
Best LF in MLB right now
10) Randy Arozarena
Randy Arozarena has fallen off a bit, but he still has a lot of talent. Fangraphs projects 2.3 fWAR for the Seattle Mariners outfielder in 2025. He struggled to the tune of 1.9 fWAR in 2024, but the next season should be stronger.
9) Ian Happ
Ian Happ is projected to record over 2.5 wins above replacement this season. He's coming off a year with the Chicago Cubs in which he recorded 3.6. That was among the best by primary left fielders.
8) James Wood
James Wood arrived last year and is primed for a huge season this year. Fangraphs projects 2.6 fWAR in 2025 after the Washington Nationals outfielder recorded 1.2 in just 79 games last year. That's a full-season pace of 2.5, and that was in his rookie year.
7) Lars Nootbaar
Lars Nootbaar is one of the more underrated players in left field. He is projected to be the everyday left fielder for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2025 and record 2.6 fWAR, tied for the third-most among all players at the position.
6) Brandon Nimmo
Brandon Nimmo will primarily play left field again for the New York Mets after they added Jose Siri and Juan Soto. Nimmo is projected to record 2.6 fWAR in 2025, which is the third-most among left fielders.
5) Tyler O'Neill
Tyler O'Neill had a brilliant season last year for the Boston Red Sox, blasting 31 home runs and recording 2.5 fWAR. The Baltimore Orioles are moving in the left-field fence for him, so he won't struggle defensively and will have more home run opportunities.
4) Wyatt Langford
At times, Wyatt Langford struggled in his rookie season with the Texas Rangers, but he still recorded 2.9 fWAR and a 110 wRC+. Fangraphs also projects the third-most fWAR among all left fielders, so he's primed for a breakout.
3) Jackson Chourio
A Rookie of the Year finalist, Jackson Chourio played a ton of games at left field last year (91 of 148) for the Milwaukee Brewers. He put together a fantastic year, recording 3.9 fWAR and a 117 wRC+ in his first taste of the big leagues.
2) Riley Greene
Riley Greene will play some left field, right field, center field and DH for the Detroit Tigers this year, just like he did in 2024. He played the majority in left, though, and had a great year. Fangraphs expects the second-most fWAR by a left fielder in 2025 for Greene in a true breakout year.
1) Steven Kwan
For a variety of reasons, including great defense and 4.1 fWAR in just 122 games, Cleveland Guardians' Steven Kwan is the best left fielder in baseball. He hits for contact, runs well and defends at a high level. Fangraphs projects a league-high 3.9 fWAR for him in 2025.
