RJ Austin was very impressive in his freshman 2023 season with the team. He garnered significant attention for scoring a home run in a game against the Maryland Terrapins on March 4, 2023. Moreover, he again displayed his impressive batting skills during the SEC Tournament, where he scored two home runs and helped his team win against the Alabama Crimson Tide on May 26, 2023. After the 2023 season, he was declared as the SEC Tournament MVP and was also included as a member of the SEC Tournament All-American Team. RJ Austin also played in the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) in summer 2023, where represented the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox and scored 13 RBIs with a sole home run in 29 games. Prior to joining college, he had also been a part of the Sunbelt Baseball League with the Atlanta Blues in 2022. There, he scored five RBIs with a single home run in 11 games.

RJ Austin attended Pace Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. He played varsity baseball for the Pace Academy Knights. Notably, he had a win-loss-draw record of 28-8-1 as a junior in 2020/21.

Austin was most successful in his senior 2021/22 season as his team’s captain. He led his team to winning consecutive region championships and has even made an Elite 8 and a Final 4 appearance in the process. As a senior in 2021/22 he scored ten home runs with 38 RBIs, 53 runs, eight doubles, four triples and had a batting average of .450. As a result, he was declared as the Perfect Game All-American Classic Player as well as a member of the Preseason All-Southwest Region First Team member in 2022. He was also included as a member of the High School All-America First Team and was the Country All-Stars Player of the Year. Perfect Game regarded him as the No. 11 shortstop and the 59th overall prospect. They also considered him as the 7th overall prospect and 2nd shortstop from Georgia. Throughout RJ Austin’s varsity baseball career, he played 71 games and scored 16 home runs with 75 RBIs while maintaining a batting average of .393. He became a high school graduate in 2022.
