For Ronald Acuna Jr., the 2024 season can be described as nothing else but a disappointment. Amid sky-high expectations coming off of a historic season, a torn ACL at the end of May closed the book on the Braves star's season.
For Acuna, it was the second ACL tear since the summer of 2021. Although it hasn't been an easy year for the Acuna family, Ronald's wife Maria Laborde took to Instagram on Wednesday to share her ingredients that helps one to "always win."
Both natives of Venezuela, Maria knew Ronald Acuna Jr. for several years before she and the Atlanta Braves star tied the knot. The message posted on Maria's Instagram reads:
"You will always win when you you move with love and genuine intentions. Always"
Now the parents of two boys, Maria, along with her sons, were frequent guests at Truist Park in Atlanta to watch Ronald play. Despite the fact that the two boys were born in the USA, the Acuna family keeps strong ties to their native Venezuela. Ronald's younger brother, Luisangel, made his MLB debut in 2024 for the New York Mets.
In 2023, Acuna Jr. became the first player in MLB history to hit more than 40 home runs while stealing more than 70 bases in the same season, winning the 2023 NL MVP award.
"#Braves announce a MRI revealed a full tear of Ronald Acuña Jr’s ACL in his left knee. Out for the season. Devastating." - Reggie Chatman Jr.
On May 27, Ronald Acuna Jr. tore his ACL against the Pittsbugh Pirates. Although the ailment shut the book on his season, Acuna should be back in action next year.
Ronald Acuna Jr. and Maria always support each other
Despite the fact that her husband has been prevented from playing the game he loves for several months, Maria remains positive. The Braves star himself told ESPN of his loving wife in 2023:
"We're a family, since we've known each other, we've wanted to be together. We have two kids. Family is meant to be together. That comes before anything else. I'm really happy that's going to happen now."
When Acuna gets back in the lineup, there's likely to be lot of winning to be done.
