The Minnesota Twins have placed slugger Royce Lewis on the Injured List with just days before the start of the postseason. Lewis has very quickly become an important part of the Twins offense, and they cannot afford to be without him for too long. He is dealing with a hamstring issue, which can be notoriously difficult to recover from, often facing setbacks.
Lewis exploded onto the scene with the Twins late in the season, hitting a ridiculous amount of grand slams. He has also shown an incredible level of consistency, with a batting average of .309. He is a big part of the Twins' late surge to take a commanding lead in the American League Central.
Bobby Nightengale Jr. of the Star Tribune was the first to report Lewis was going on the Injured List.
"Twins placed Royce Lewis on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain. Jordan Luplow fills his spot on the active roster" - Bobby Nightengale Jr.
Barstool Baseball shared Lewis' incredible and inexplicable grand slam abilities on Twitter.
"Royce Lewis has 5 grand slams in his career. He’s only played 66 games" - Barstool Baseball
It is likely this time off is simply to allow Lewis to have a full recovery before returning to action. The Twins will all but certainly win the American League Central, with a 8.5 game lead at the time of writing.

In addition to Lewis, Carlos Correa was also recently placed on the Injured List. Byron Buxton has been out of action since early August. Even though both stars are having down years, they would be huge assets in the playoffs. Hopefully allowing them to rest in the leadup to October will help them be ready.
If they are able to return for even one or two MLB games before the playoffs start, the Twins will be set up for success well.
