The Los Angeles Dodgers hope to add some valuable additions amid their struggles with several injured players at this time of the season. Days away from the July 30 trade deadline, the team is reportedly interested in a utility player.

According to the NY Post’s Jon Heyman, the Dodgers are eyeing St. Louis Cardinals player Tommy Edman.

“The Dodgers who have long liked Tommy Edman are among teams considering him,” Heyman wrote.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have lost many of their players in several positions to injuries. Adding Tommy Edman, who could play multiple positions, can provide them with the depth they significantly need for the postseason.

According to The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya and Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers are already in discussions with Edman, although no trade has been confirmed as of now.

Tommy Edman, who is under team control through 2025, can play both shortstop and center field, plugging several holes for the Dodgers if added.

The Dodgers have been significantly impacted by injuries, including Mookie Betts' fractured hand, Max Muncy’s strained oblique, Miguel Rojas’ flexor strain, and Chris Taylor’s groin strain.

Edman inked a two-year deal worth $16.5 million with the St. Louis Cardinals on January 22 but hasn’t made a start in the major league yet.

Tommy Edman garners interest from Yankees amid no signs of returning to the big leagues' plate

Tommy Edman has missed the entire 2024 season until now while recovering from the right wrist surgery he had in the offseason. However, despite him now showing his spark in the regular season, another team wants to get their hands on Edman, per The Athletic's Katie Woo.

"(Tommy) Edman continues to garner interest, with both the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees inquiring about his availability," Woo wrote.

If the New York Yankees did end up acquiring Tommy Edman, he could provide additional infield depth while supporting their top hitters.

The 29-year-old is currently on a rehab assignment with the Double-A Springfield Cardinals. Last season, he had a batting average of .248, tied his career high with 13 home runs, and recorded 47 RBIs.

With both the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees interested in Tommy Edman, it will be interesting to see who will be able to acquire him before the July 30 trade deadline.
