The Boston Red Sox reached out to the Chicago Cubs regarding starting pitcher Jameson Taillon. Boston desperately needs pitching going into the second half, and Taillon has pitched well this year.
However, Chicago was still figuring out what their role would be with the MLB Trade Deadline quickly approaching. They are a bubble team that could be sellers or buyers, but the baseball world finally knows what the Cubbies will do over the next few days.
Cubs president Jed Hoyer met with the media on Monday, telling them they would be willing to move players ahead of the deadline. This is fantastic news for Boston and some other teams looking closely at the North Side players.
Other players outside of Taillon who could be on the move are Cody Bellinger, Justin Steele and Nico Hoerner. Watch for teams to aggressively be in contact with the Cubbies this week.
Is Jameson Taillon a good fit for the Red Sox?
Jameson Taillon has started 17 games for the Cubs this season, compiling a 7-5 record with a 2.96 ERA on 100.1 innings of work. He has pitched well and would be a boost in the Red Sox rotation.
Boston needs to add pitching as both Tanner Huock and Kutter Crawford are coming up on career highs in innings pitched. They cannot continue to let these two go in the second half and expect to be in the mix in the American League East.
Other arms that Boston could turn to include a familiar face, James Paxton. He spent the 2022-23 season with the club and was just DFA'd by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Paxton would be somebody that would not hurt the team financially and has been dependable this season.
