The San Diego Padres are a professional baseball team playing in the National League of Major League Baseball (MLB). As of October 2024, the Padres are based in San Diego and play their home games at Petco Park. Who is the San Diego Padres’ Manager in 2024?
Michael Timothy Shildt became the new manager of the San Diego Padres in the 2024 season. Notably, Shildt started out his baseball career at Olympic High School and later at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. He then shifted to a coaching career and started out as the head coach of West Charlotte High School baseball team followed by being the assistant coach for the Charlotte 49ers.
Shildt started out his MLB career as a scout for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2004. He moved on to become the coach of several minor league teams until he became the manager of the Johnson City Cardinals in 2009. However, after years of managing the Johnson City Cardinals, Shildt became the quality control coach for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2017. This was followed by various roles such as serving as the third base coach and bench coach and later becoming the interim manager of the team (being the first in the league without any professional playing experience since Dave Trembley).
He was also the NL Manager of the Year in 2019. He stayed with the team till the 2021 season before joining the San Diego Padres in 2022 as a player development consultant as well as their interim third base. Remarkably, he took over as the new manager of the team in 2024, after being chosen for the same on November 21, 2023. As a manager, he has achieved a record of 345-268 in 613 games in his career as of October 2024.
