T-Mobile Park’s History/ T-Mobile Park Construction and Cost
The preparation for the construction of the T-Mobile Park started after the Seattle Mariners found their previous home stadium The Kingdome to be deteriorating. However, King County rejected the referendum for a new baseball stadium in 1995. Nevertheless, the Seattle Mariners became the AL West Division champions for the first time that year and this worked to their favor in getting a new baseball stadium. Public funding of the new stadium was agreed upon by the Washington State Legislature and the construction of the stadium started in 1997 at a southern side of the Kingdome. The stadium was introduced to the public on July 15, 1999 after the All-Star break. A scoreboard of 11,435 square feet was also added in the stadium. This stadium is the 5th oldest and the 3rd retro-modern style baseball stadium built in the 1990s.
