Bernardo Sebastian Zavala is an American professional baseball catcher currently signed to the Arizona Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball (MLB). Born August 28, 1993, in Fort Hood, Texas, U.S., Zavala moved to California for his schooling. He attended Bishop Amat High School in La Puente, California. Zavala would go on to commit to San Diego State University where he played college baseball. After sitting out a chunk of the 2013 season due to Tommy John Surgery, Zavala was given a reprieve when the Chicago White Sox picked him up in the 12th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft.
He began his professional career with the Arizona League White Sox. In his first season as a professional, he batted .326/ .401/ .628 with four home runs and 35 RBIs in a total of 35 games. In 2016, he played a total of 93 games with the Kannapolis Intimidators, batting at a .253 average, with seven home runs and 49 RBIs. Called up to the White Sox 40-man roster in November 2018, Zavala made his major league debut on May 25, 2019, against the Minnesota Twins.
After a couple of seasons with the White Sox, Seby was claimed off waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks on September 6, 2023. However, he was deemed ineligible for the team's postseason roster despite starting in seven of Arizona's final games that season. This was due to him being acquired after September 1.
