Shohei Ohtani is a well-known name in the world of baseball. Nicknamed “Showtime” and “The Unicorn”, he is a pitcher, designated hitter, and outfielder who plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ohtani signed the richest contract in professional sports history with the Los Angeles Dodgers on December 11, 2023, for a 10-year, $700 million deal.

Born on July 5, 1994, in Oshu, Iwate, Japan, Ohtani played baseball in Japan before making the jump to MLB. He has been described as a two-way player because of his pitching and hitting skills. He is a two-time AL MVP in 2021 and 2023. He has also become a three-time AL-MLB First Team Award winner. He also is a 2-time All MLB second team member in 2021 and 2022. Ohtani also won the AL Rookie of the Year in 2018. He won two Silver Slugger Awards in 2021 and 2023, became the AL triples leader in 2021, and also won the Edgar Martinez Award three times in 2021, 2022, and 2023. He is also a two-time AP Athlete of the Year in 2021 and 2023. Ohtani has also represented his home team, Japan, in the World Baseball Classic 2023. Shohei Ohtani is a four-time MLB All-Star player and has three AL All-Star awards and one NL All-Star award in his collection.

2021 All-Star Game

Shohei Ohtani represented the American League team in the 2021 MLB All-Star Game. He started out batting against right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer. He returned as a starting pitcher in the bottom half of the game. He was known for his fastballs, which he threw at 100.2 mph.

2022 All-Star Game

In 2022, Shohei Ohtani was selected as a designated hitter and pitcher for the American League team for the second time. However, he only played as a hitter because he wanted to put more importance on the 2022 MLB season than the All-Star game. He also did not participate in the Home Run Derby.

2023 All-Star Game

It was Ohtani's third consecutive year being selected as an All-Star in both the pitcher and DH roles when he was chosen as the American League's pitcher on July 2, 2023.
