The Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani has been a great asset for his team, and as it turns out, he's also built great relationships with his teammates. The Dodgers are currently in the final stretch of their regular season and their game at Dodger Stadium against the San Diego Padres will determine whether they'll hold the NL West division title this season or not.
The Dodgers are aiming at taking the NL West title for the 11th time in the last 12 years. The credit goes to many players, but one in particular has been in stellar form, and that's Shohei Ohtani. This was Ohtani's first season after the $700 million for 10 years contract, and he proved his worth in the very first season by breaking many records in the Major League.
However, Ohtani becomes different not because of his slashing skills, instead he's adored by his teammates for his off-field nature.
"He’s a little kid in a grown man’s body,” Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy said. “He doesn’t like to take things too seriously, he likes to have fun. He’s always smiling, always trying to joke around.
"You definitely would have no idea he’s the guy that he is – if you knew nothing about baseball, and you’d never seen him before – you wouldn’t think that he was a big deal with how he acts," he added.
Despite the language barrier, Ohtani has been able to build a great bond with his teammates.
Teoscar Hernandez talks about the humorous side of Shohei Ohtani
Many players have two different sides one for when they're on and one for when they're off the field, and so does Shohei Ohtani. The Japanese player doesn't speak much in the interviews, and it could be solely because of the language barrier. Since his teammates have revealed his extroversion, and how he keeps on cracking jokes.
The Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez talked about how Shohei Ohtani is one of the funniest guys on the roster and is actually the opposite of the serious guy many perceive him to be.
"He’s one of those guys, always, if you sit next to him and talk to him, he’s gonna be fun. He makes a lot of jokes, and you know, he’s a good guy,” Hernandez said. “Everybody sees him as a quiet guy, a serious guy, but I think he’s the opposite. I just think, when he’s here,” he gestures to the field, “he’s focused.
Even though Ohtani has become a household name in many parts of the world, he's always been a humble man, as per his teammates.
