Despite his identity as one of the top athletes in the world, Shohei Ohtani is notoriously private about his own life. Recently, fans got a glimpse of the influence that the Dodger star's better half has on him.

In February, Ohtani took to his Instagram account to announce his marriage to a "normal Japanese woman." The announcement, which captivated audiences around the world, sparked an investigation which revealed that Ohtani had married Japanese basketball player Mamiko Tanaka.

On Tuesday night, Mamiko chose "il vento d'oro" as her husband's walk-up song. The tune, made in 2018, serves as the soundtrack for Giorno Giovanna in the Japanese manga series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

Shohei Ohtani would go on to record a double and three RBIs in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. Although Mamiko rarely makes a public appearance alongside her husband, her choice of walk-up music for her husband sheds some light on the inner dynamics of their relationship.

Born in Tokyo in 1996, Mamiko Tanaka attended Waseda University, where she was first noticed for her basketball skills. Following her graduation, Tanaka joined the Fujitsu Red Wave of the Women's Japan Basketball League. Though now retired, Tanaka also won gold medals at the 2011 U-16 Championship as well as the 2017 William Jones Cup.

Although Mamiko keeps a low profile like her husband, the retired basketball star has been spotted a few times with her husband. Fans got the first glimpse of the pair as a couple in March when Mamiko was on site to see Ohtani play the San Diego Padres in Seoul to kick off the 2024 MLB season.

Mamiko plays important support role for Shohei Ohtani

Fresh off inking the largest contract in pro sports history with the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this year, Shohei Ohtani has also embarked on a new personal situation. As the star wrote on Instagram to announce his wedding:

“Not only have I began a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers but I also have began a new life with someone from my Native country of Japan who is very special to me and I wanted everyone to know I am now married,”

Though she may not be one to hog the limelight, Tanaka's unwavering support of her superstar husband shows in moments like this one.
