Bruce Douglas Bochy is a French-American professional baseball manager and a former player. Bochy recently came out of retirement to manage the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball (MLB). Born on April 16, 1955, in France, Bochy's family moved numerous times before settling down in Melbourne, Florida. He attended Melbourne High School and pursued his graduation from the Brevard Community College (later known as Eastern Florida State College), winning a Florida state championship with them in 1975. After two successful years at Brevard, Bruce committed to play baseball at South Alabama.

After turning down the Chicago White Sox who drafted him first in the 1975 MLB draft, Bochy went on to sign with the Houston Astros on June 3, 1975, after they picked him up 24th overall in the first round of the 1975 Supplemental Draft. He played nine seasons in MLB as a catcher for the Houston Astros, New York Mets, and San Diego Padres. Bruce turned to the managerial role upon retiring, a career in which he found great success. He managed the San Diego Padres for 12 seasons from 1995-2006 and led them to one World Series appearance. He was also voted the NL Manager of the Year in 1996. Bochy would then go on to manage the San Francisco Giants for 13 seasons from 2007 - 2019. He won three World Series Championships during his time in San Francisco. Bochy currently manages the Texas Rangers whom he joined in 2022. He won the AL Pennant with them in just his first season.

With roughly 2,093 (as of October 2023) wins under his belt as a manager in his career up until now, Bruce holds the unique record of being the only manager in MLB to win at least 900 games with two different teams. Bochy resides in Poway, California, and Nashville, Tennessee with his wife Kim Seib. Kim and him tied the knot in 1978, and have been happily married ever since. The couple has two sons: Greg and Brett.

Bruce Bochy's current salary

Bruce Bochy came out of retirement on October 21, 2022, and joined the Texas Rangers as their new manager, arguably his toughest challenge yet.

The three-time World Series championship-winning manager and the Rangers penned a deal for three seasons. The terms and salary package were not disclosed to the public, but reports suggest that will be one of the most highly-paid managers in the game. Some even predict his salary will stretch into the seven-figure mark.

Bruce Bochy's past salaries

Despite there being a dearth of information regarding Bruce Bochy's salary during his time in the MLB, his salary during his playing career with the Padres has been kept in account. Bochy earned $60,000 in the 1985 season as per reports. A USA Today survey reported that Bochy earned $125,000 in the 1986 season and $135,000 in the 1987 season.

It was reported that Bochy became the highest-paid manager in baseball when he signed a three-year extension with the San Francisco Giants in April 2015. While the terms were released, Jon Heyman. reported that he made $4.5 million during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He got a $1.5 million raise on his new contract, which leapfrogged his total salary to $6 million per year for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Other figures during his time in the majors continue to be a mystery.

Bruce Bochy contracts

Bruce Bochy's first taste of management came with the San Diego Padres who picked him up as their team's third-base coach in 1993. He took up the managerial role a couple of seasons later (1995) after the departure of Jim Riggleman.

Bochy signed with the San Francisco Giants manager on October 27, 2006, after 12 seasons with the Padres. Details about his contract haven't been disclosed to the public.
