Globe Life Field’s History/ Globe Life Field Construction and Cost

The foundation for the construction of a new baseball stadium for the Texas Rangers started after they felt the need for a new one in 2015. They reasoned that rains and high temperatures often make it difficult for the fans to enjoy the game. They intended to build a new stadium with retractable roof and air conditioners for the comfort of their fans. This was supported by over 60% of voters when the referendum was introduced. The construction of the stadium started on September 28, 2017 and it was completed 30 months later. Despite the stadium being completed, Covid-19 pandemic resulted in the 2020 MLB season being postponed. As a result, the first MLB game was played on the stadium on July 24, 2020 and it was opened to the fans on October 12, 2020. Notably, this is the third stadium for the Texas Rangers after Arlington Stadium and Globe Life Park, which was renamed to Choctaw Stadium after the departure of the team.

The Globe Life Field covers 1.8 million square feet in space. Its retractable roof is one of the most unique parts of its construction. It weighs 24 million pounds and is the largest single panel retractable stadium cover made up of transparent ethylene tetrafluoroethylene polymer. It allows sunlight to reach all areas of the ballpark and can be opened and closed in 12 minutes. It has 6 gates to enter the stadium. The seats are placed in such a way that every fan can fully enjoy the game. The premium facilities of the stadium include 71 Classic Suites, 12 Field Suites and 16 Party Suites. If the fans walk around the main course of the stadium, they can get a 360 degree view of the ballpark. The same can be seen from the upper concourse also. The scoreboard for the stadium is 40 feet tall and 111 feet wide. There are air conditioned clubs and lounges in the concession area. The field surface in the stadium is made up of Shaw Sports B1K. The left field is 329 feet while the left center field is 372 feet.m The right field is 326 feet while the right center field is 374 feet. The center field is 407 feet while the backstop is 42 feet. The construction of the stadium cost $1.1 billion in 2020. The construction was done by HKS, Inc. and VLK Architects.

The Globe Life Field was the home to the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) hosted by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

Collegiate Boxing

The Globe Life Field hosted a collegiate boxing bout between the Army Black Knights and the Air Force Falcons on November 5, 2021. The Air Force Falcons defeated the Army Black Knights 6-4.

Collegiate Football

The Globe Life Field hosted a collegiate football game between the Army Black Knights and the Air Force Falcons on November 6, 2021. The game went to overtime where the Army Black Knights defeated the Air Force Falcons 21-14.

Music Concerts

Several notable music artists has also held their music performances in Globe Life Field. These include Green Day, Fall Out Boy & Weezer (2021), Metallica (2021), Def Leppard & Motley Crue (2022), Lady Gaga (2022), Red Hot Chili Peppers (2022), Elton John (2022), Morgan Wallen (2022) and Jonas Brothers (2023). Morgan Wallen’s concert on October 8, 2022 saw a record number of 43,598 fans.

For 2024, Glover Life Field will host Def Leppard & Journey on August 12, 2024. Then, they will host Green Day on September 11, 2024 and P!nk on November 6, 2024.
