If an MLB starter gets a lot of strikeouts, they've likely had a good day on the mound. That means they didn't test their defense and didn't allow hitters to really get going very often. Sports bettors can try and predict what tallies each pitcher will get based on an over/under line. Today, we've compiled the best bets, as per DraftKings, for you to keep an eye on.
Best MLB strikeout prop bets for August 7
5) Joe Ryan: Under 6.5 -130
Joe Ryan has struck out 27.3% of the batters he has faced this year. He also has a solid 9.81 K/9 rate, but the odds aren't in his favor today. The Minnesota Twins star is taking on the Chicago Cubs, and the odds don't believe he's likely to pass seven strikeouts.
4) Luis Gil: Under 6.5 -155
Luis Gil has had an up-and-down season, and that has shown itself in his strikeout tallies (though he does have a 28.5% K rate and 10.54 K/9). He did have a really good outing last time out, but the line is high today. Plus, the New York Yankees starter is off-schedule since his start last night was rained out.
3) Blake Snell: Under 7.5 -170
What can Blake Snell do to follow up his first career complete game and no-hitter? Probably not hit eight strikeouts if the odds are to be trusted. That's a high mark for the San Francisco Giants ace even if he has a 31% K rate this season.
2) Chris Sale: Over 6.5 -135
Chris Sale is one of the league's best at recording strikeouts. The Atlanta Braves starter has a 32.2% K rate and an 11.34 K/9 rate. Additionally, the line he has is not even the highest on this list, so he's a really good bet to get seven or more strikeouts.
1) Michael King: Over 5.5 -190
Michael King has been excellent this year for the San Diego Padres, which includes posting quality strikeout numbers. A 28% strikeout percentage and 10.42 K/9 rate are really good metrics, and he also has a lower over/under line. Take the over today.
