With 30 total pitchers tabbed to start today, there will be plenty of strikeouts across the MLB. Each starting pitcher usually earns more than a few. It's the job of sports bettors everywhere to predict how many each one will have based on an over/under line. This can be difficult to do since the lines are usually spot on, but we've compiled today's best bets from DraftKings.
Best MLB strikeout prop bets for August 18
5) Tarik Skubal: Under 7.5 -145
Tarik Skubal has been lights out this year, and he's striking out 30.5% of the batters he has faced this year. However, the Detroit Tigers ace has to face the New York Yankees. They were shut out yesterday, which means a regression to the mean is likely and Skubal hitting the over is not.
4) Charlie Morton: Over 5.5 -145
Charlie Morton has been on a good run recently, and his overall strikeout numbers are decent (23.5% K rate, 8.95 K/9). The key today is that he's facing the struggling Los Angeles Angels, so he has one of the best possible matchups today.
3) Pablo Lopez: Over 5.5 -140
Pablo Lopez has been above average in the strikeout department for the Minnesota Twins: 26.7% K rate, 9.93 K/9. Today, the starter is up against the Texas Rangers, who haven't shown a ton of offensive firepower this year. Take the over on his strikeouts.
2) Blake Snell: Under 8.5 -115
Blake Snell has been really good as of late. The San Francisco Giants ace has also upped his strikeout numbers to an impressive 32.7% K rate and almost 12 punchouts every nine innings. Unfortunately, his line today is just so high that it's hard to envision him getting the over even against the Oakland Athletics.
1) Clayton Kershaw: Over 4.5 -105
Clayton Kershaw has only struck out 21% of batters this year and has a K/9 of just 8.50. However, the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher's line is only 4.5, one of the lowest out there. That means he really only needs to go five innings or so to reach the over, which is easily doable.
