It looks like Tommy Pham will be on the lookout for a new home yet again as the veteran outfielder has been officially designated for assignment by the St. Louis Cardinals. With 28 games remaining in the regular season, the Cardinals find themselves on the outside of the postseason looking in which makes the decision an unsurprising one.
Even though Tommy Pham has only appeared in 23 games for St. Louis after being acquired close to the trade deadline, he is still an effective batter at this stage of his career. So far this season, Pham owns a .254 batting average with seven home runs, 31 RBIs and a .698 OPS. While his numbers may not jump off the page, it's difficult to acquire proven talents at this point of the season.
Here's a look at 3 potential landing spots for Tommy Pham after being DFA'd
Kansas City Royals
With the postseason fast approaching, the Kansas City Royals have lost one of their most important offensive weapons to injury: Vinnie Pasquantino. The slugger is expected to miss the next 6-8 weeks with a right thumb fracture, opening the door for a veteran such as Tommy Pham to step in.
Pham may not be a first baseman; however, the Royals have several versatile players who could take turns at the position. This would allow Pham to serve as a designated hitter or outfielder if needed. Depth is one of the most underrated strengths heading into the playoffs, making Pham an intriguing addition heading into the postseason.
LA Dodgers
The LA Dodgers are the first team to reach 80 wins this season, yet, despite their success, they have struggled with consistency at the bottom of their order. The Dodgers have taken a shot at some players this season including Cavan Biggio and Amed Rosario and it seems to make sense that they would try with Pham as well.
Seattle Mariners
Despite the struggles of their offense all season long, the postseason is still within reach for the Seattle Mariners. The team is only 4.5 games outside of a playoff berth which makes them an ideal landing spot for a proven batter like Tommy Pham.
Although Pham's best days might be behind him, he is still an effective player who could contribute to his next team. The Mariners could use all of the help they can get, and at this point of the season, it's difficult to find a player who could make an immediate impact. As a depth piece, the Mariners could certainly do worse.
