While the Los Angeles Dodgers took a 2-0 in the World Series on Saturday, Shohei Ohtani's shock injury in the seventh inning took some of the sweetness out of the victory.

LA put in a strong, all-round performance to secure a 4-2 victory over the New York Yankees but lost their Japanese slugger to a shoulder injury as he attempted to steal second base.

LA fans were left dejected after Ohtani had to be led off the field clutching his left arm while other MLB fans came up with creative memes on social media in react to the incident.

After securing a MLB postseason berth for the first time in his career, Shohei Ohtani has had a strong run with the Los Angeles Dodgers, leading them to the World Series.

On Saturday, the Dodgers took an huge step towards their ultimate goal but lost their star player as he dislocated his left shoulder while attempting to steal second base . Over his first postseason run, Ohtani has an .290 average with three home runs and 10 RBI.

While Ohtani's future in the World Series series remains uncertain, the Dodgers put in an impressive performance to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

Tommy Edman started the scoring with a solo homer in the second inning before Teoscar Hernandez added a two-run moonshot in the third to add some insurance.

Another solo home run from Freddie Freeman in the third was enough to see the Dodgers over the line. Meanwhile, Yoshiobu Yamamoto put in a strong performance from the mound, giving up only a single hit over six innings.


Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provides update on Shohei Ohtani's shoulder injury

After their victory in Game 2 of the World Series, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an update on Shohei Ohtani's shoulder injury during the game.

While Roberts admitted that he was initially highly concerned, the subsequent examination of Ohtani's arm has since been encouraging. Speaking to the media, Roberts said:

"We'll know more in the next couple of days. The strength was great; the range of motion good, so we're encouraged."

The Dodgers will have to wait a couple of days for the test results to return before they can determine the extent of the injury, but it seems unlikely for Ohtani to return to the World Series.

The Dodgers travel to the Bronx to take on the New York Yankees at home on Monday.
