The 2025 MLB season is rapidly approaching. However, there are still some significant free agents waiting on their next contracts. Some of the biggest names of the offseason have already found new homes, with Juan Soto joining the New York Mets and Corbin Burnes heading to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

There are still several free agents remaining on the open market who could make an impact in 2025, no matter where they land. From multi-time World Series champions to All-Stars and potential future Hall of Famers, many intriguing players are looking for a new home this offseason.

Here's a closer look at the top five MLB free agents remaining and where they might land.

Top 5 remaining MLB free agents and where they may end up next season

#1. Pete Alonso

Pete Alonso remains one of the best players remaining in free agency. Even though the long-time New York Mets slugger has some flaws in his game, he has been one of the most prolific home run hitters in baseball since reaching the Majors in 2019. His market may not have been what he expected.

However, he has still drawn plenty of interest from several clubs looking to add to their power-hitting.

Potential landing spots: Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets

#2. Alex Bregman

Alex Bregman has enjoyed a tremendous MLB career so far, winning the World Series twice with the Houston Astros. That being said, the Gold Glove-winning third baseman remains on the open market as he seeks a lucrative contract. Bregman is reportedly not looking to sign a short-term deal with a higher AAV, which could limit his potential suitors.

Potential Landing Spots: Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox

#3. Jurickson Profar

Jurickson Profar is one of the most puzzling free agents this offseason. The veteran utilityman put together the best season of his career in 2024. However, he has been inconsistent through 11 MLB seasons. There is a chance that he will be unable to produce at the same level he did in 2024, yet he could still be an impact batter for most clubs across the league.

Potential Landing Spots: Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros

#4. Jack Flaherty

It was a tremendous bounce-back season for Jack Flaherty last year, posting a 3.17 ERA with 194 strikeouts over 162.0 innings split between the Detroit Tigers and LA Dodgers. The starting pitcher market has quickly begun to dry up, and Flaherty is arguably the top name remaining in free agency. Several clubs are still looking to bolster their pitching staff and Flaherty could be the key.

Potential Landing Spots: Baltimore Orioles, San Francisco Giants

#5. Max Scherzer

Max Scherzer is going to find himself inducted into the Hall of Fame when all is said and done. The 40-year-old might not have many more seasons left in him, but if he can remain healthy in 2025, he could still be an impact pitcher for a club. As one of the most accomplished free agents remaining on the open market, Scherzer should be able to secure a deal before the start of the new season.

Potential Landing Spots: Toronto Blue Jays, San Diego Padres
