MLB fans were treated to a crazy season this past year. Many players overperformed, some games were played in unique locations, and fans saw a player do something no other player had even gotten close to doing.
Some instances surely stick out more than others. Today, we will take a look at five of these moments that stuck out and will be cherished by fans for years to come.
Five unforgettable moments during the 2024 MLB season
5) Hunter Greene stays in game after blowing chunks
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Hunter Greene had a night against the Pittsburgh Pirates he would like to remember. After throwing the first pitch to Bryan Reynolds, Greene turned around and vomited for everyone to see.
This was the second time something like this had happened this past season for Greene. However, after catching his breath, he stayed in the game, going four innings before being pulled.
4) Rickwood Field game
The MLB has tried its hand at bringing games to unique locations. Whether that be international or here in the United States. On June 20, the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants faced off at the former home of the Birmingham Black Barons.
Outside of playing at America's oldest ballpark, the game saw an all-black umpiring crew. This was the first time in AL/NL history to do so, giving a nod to the Negro Leagues.
3) Aaron Judge's error in Game 5 of the World Series
New York Yankees star Aaron Judge made a costly error during Game 5 of the MLB World Series. In the fifth inning, the slugger missed an easy catch in the outfield where the Dodgers took advantage. L.A. went on to score even up the 5-0 deficit and eventually won the game 7-6.
2) Freddie Freeman's walk-off grand slam
Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Freddie Freeman came up to the plate in game 1 of the World Series with his team's back against the wall. They were down one, with the bases juiced, and Freeman delivered.
He hit a walk-off grand slam that ended up setting the tone for the rest of the series. The Dodgers made quick work of the Yankees, taking home the series 4-1.
1) Shohei Ohtani's 50-50 game
Shohei Ohtani proved just how elite he is with his impressive 2024 season at the plate. However, his September matchup against the Miami Marlins sticks out like a sore thumb.
During this game, Ohtani went 6-for-6 at the plate, hitting three home runs, 10 runs batted in, and stole two bases. This secures his spot as the only player in MLB history to have hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases during a single season.
