The Dominican Republic and Venezuela are set to face off in their opening game of the World Baseball Classic on March 11th, 2023.
Both teams are known for their strong bullpen and pitching rotation, with the Dominican Republic being touted as tournament favorites before injuries to key players such as Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Juan Soto, and Luis Castillo. Despite this, they still have strong players such as Manny Machado, Rafael Devers, and Jeremy Peña.
On the other hand, Venezuela is a team that has often been overlooked but has a strong batting order featuring Jose Altuve, Gleyber Torres, and Ronald Acuña Jr.
While the Dominican Republic has the best pitching rotation in the tournament, good hitting often beats good pitching in this tournament, and with the Dominicans missing some key players in their lineup, Venezuela could potentially pull off a massive upset.
