For Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros, the offseason began earlier than expected. However, despite meeting an untimely elimination in the AL Wild Card Series, Alex and his wife Reagan are making the most of their offseason.
On Sunday, Governor Sam, a colt owned by Bregman Family Racing, captured first place at the Keeneland Indian Summer. Ridden by jockey Pablo Lopez, Governor Sam won first place to capture the $250,000 cash prize.
The owner of eight racehorses, Alex Bregman was first introduced to the hobby by his grandfather, Bo. A native of New Mexico, the Houston Astros third baseman has since had many of his horses compete in races, with some capturing wins.
Alex's wife, Reagan, has also embraced horseracing. In addition to being the mother to their son, Knox, Reagan has also delved into various entrepreneurial endeavors, including her brand of athleisure wear, called Exiza.

Bregman went 3-for-8 in the recent AL Wild Card series that saw his Astros fall in consecutive games to the Detroit Tigers. Now in a big offseason, Bregman's five-year, $100 million deal with Houston is up for renewal. After a strong season in the box, the chances of an extension are looking solid for Bregman.
In the 145 games that comprised Bregman's ninth season in Houston, the 30-year-old did not disappoint. Bregman hit .260/.315/.453 with 26 home runs and 75 RBIs. After hitting just .220 for the first two months of the season, Bregman ended up with his most home runs in a season since 2019.
Alex Bregman's teammates want him to stick around
After such a strong season, the ball is in Bregman's court as he enters free agency talks. As Jose Altuve, who has played with Bregman for the latter's entire career on the Astros, told MLB.com:
“I don’t want to think about my last game with Breggy, I’m pretty confident he’s going to be our third baseman next year. We have to. We’re not going to be the same organization without him. In my mind, there’s not a chance this is the last game.”
After an offseason of racing, Alex Bregman will likely return to the only MLB team he has ever known on opening day 2025.
