Although it looks like the New York Mets will miss out on the postseason for the seventh time in eight seasons, that is not stopping the team's fans from having fun. Recently, it was one of the club's non-human fans who stole the spotlight.

During the Mets game against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday, a fan was spotted treating his canine friend to a hotdog. Clad in a Mets jersey and cap, and even a pair of sunglasses, the dog had no qualms about devouring some Citi Field hotdogs, much to the enjoyment of the broadcast booth.
The menu item was apparently the Frankfurter sausage, one of the most widely-known and enjoyed meals at Citi Field. After the dog's spotlight-grabbing moment was aired on SNY, several fans took to social media to share their enthusiasm and delight upon witnessing the scene play out.
"Me too little dude, me too. These are the dog days of summer"
While the Mets are still statistically unlikely to make the postseason, billionaire owner Steve Cohen's club has certainly been making strides to close the gap. Having gone 14-8 since June 15, the team is now only 1.5 games behind the San Diego Padres for the third and final National League Wild Card berth.
At the very least, the furry Mets fan and his owner were treated to quite a performance on Tuesday as the Mets faced off against an NL East counterpart. Francisco Lindor opened the scoring with an RBI single before a three-run home run from Brandon Nimmo put the club ahead 4-0 in the second inning. A subsequent RBI double off of the bat of Jeff McNeil would help the team secure a 7-5 win over Washington.
Hope remains for New York Mets' season
Even though the team remains 13.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East, the team's .263 batting average over the past month is among the best in the league. After the win over the Nats, manager Carlos Mendoza showed that he still believes in his club, telling MLB.com:
“They’ve been doing it for a long time. The way they are impacting the baseball and driving the ball to all fields … that tells you that they’re seeing the ball well and they’re great players.”
If the Mets do end up making the postseason, then they will need to ensure that the hotdog-munching dog is given a chance to spectate once again.
