WATCH: Royals RF Hunter Renfroe breaks down "Hunter's Royale" cheese sandwich created in his honor

Although Hunter Renfroe of the Royals may not be hitting like he has in seasons past, the 32-year-old veteran is still enjoying the show. Recently, the outfielder shared the process that goes into making a delectable sandwich that takes its name after the KC star.

Recently, Renfroe teamed up with Kansas City-area BBQ chain Zarda. Named "Hunter's Royale," the sandwich is truly an expression of gastronomic proportions, and the ingredients were thought up by Hunter Renfroe himself.

In a recent Instagram reel for Zarda, Renfroe profiled the arduous process of making the sandwich.

In the video, the Kansas City Royals veteran describes the process, as well as what one can find within the eponymous sandwich. According to the video, Hunter's Royale consists of melted Pepper Jack cheese, tender pulled pork, melted cheddar cheese, crispy onion straws and melted Provolone cheese. Additionally, Hunter's favorite BBQ sauce has been added, and it all fits into a Brioche bun.

According to Zarda's website, a portion of the proceeds on sales of Hunter's Royale will go to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City. Although the sandwich is available at two Zarda locations in KC, around 20 Hy-Vee locations around the metro area will also be stocking the trademark meal.

A former San Diego Padres first-round draft pick, Hunter Renfroe made his MLB debut in 2016. After hitting a career-high 33 home runs as a member of the Friars in 2019, the Mississippi-born Renfroe was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays prior to the 2020 season.

Over the past number of seasons, Renfroe has seen a marked decline in his offensive output. A .236 hitter since 2022, Hunter Renfroe has hit just .194 this season with the Royals, although he has contributed with seven home runs and 27 RBIs.

Hunter Renfroe seeks to connect with fanbase beyond the field of play

A 54-win team in 2023, the Royals now sit just 0.5 of a game behind the Boston Red Sox for the third and final AL wild card spot. Although Renfroe's play has not been outstanding, he hopes to get fans excited about the sandwich, claiming on Zarda's website:

“This sandwich is delicious – it’s a winner! Hunter’s Royale with Cheese does not disappoint – the Burnt Ends, the Pulled Pork, a whole lot of melted cheese, the crispy onion straws, plus my favorite sauce – this one’s for real! KC, you’re gonna’ love it! Did I mention the cheese?!”
