Former San Francisco Giants star Aubrey Huff opened up about his desperate measure to cope with the pressure of surviving in the major leagues in his book, "Baseball Junkie," which was released in February 2017.
He started taking a combination drug called Adderall in 2009, when he was faced with the prospect of playing a day game following a night game with a hangover. Apparently, it started with a mere suggestion from a former teammate and eventually transformed into an addiction.
Huff mentioned about his dependability on the drug:
"I had never felt, within 30 minutes, more alive, more energetic, more confident, invincible. I thought, well, [shoot], no wonder so many guys in the league are on that stuff. I went 0-for-4 and I felt like I went 4-for-4. From that moment on I was hooked. ... I was crushing 20, sometimes 50, 60, almost 100 milligrams daily, depending on the pressure of the game"
"Aubrey Huff told me about the first time he tried Adderall and wondered how he ever played baseball without it." - Jim Rome
Huff also spoke about how it was a "vicious cycle for three years" and the drug was "hard to come off."
Aubrey Huff won the World Series with San Francisco Giants
Despite being under the influence of drugs while playing with the SF Giants between 2010-2012, Aubrey Huff went on to clinch two World Series titles. However, the day after winning the championship title, he could feel an emptiness within him, a side effect of overdosing on drugs.
As per a Bleacher Report article, Huff said:
"The next morning I woke up next to my wife after we won the World Series, and I looked her dead in the eye and I go, 'Huh. Now what?' It was a feeling - I was coming down from my Adderall - it was a feeling of worthlessness and emptiness because I worked my whole life to win a World Series, but I felt so empty and so ashamed"

Huff's saga with the combination drug serves as a warning about the dangers of Adderall misuse.
In the 12 years of his MLB career, Aubrey has played with Tampa Bay Devil Rays (2000–2006), Houston Astros (2006), Baltimore Orioles (2007–2009), Detroit Tigers (2009), and San Francisco Giants (2010–2012).
