Derek Jeter is one of the greatest baseball players to ever grace the planet. The shortstop for the New York Yankees had a legendary 20-year career during which he set records and used his talent and charisma to advance Major League Baseball.
In 1995, Jeter made his major league debut at the age of 20. The following season, he was named the Yankees' starting shortstop, took home the Rookie of the Year Award and assisted his club in defeating the Atlanta Braves in the 1996 World Series.
Jeter was overwhelmed with fanfare after the World Series win in his second year and felt New York City's love for the Yankees. Jeter was overwhelemed and said:
“I’m still dreaming. The way New York has embraced us after the championship, I can’t put it into words… I hope we can do it a few more years… There’s nothing else I’d rather do than win some more.”
