In October 2018, former Oakland Athletics star Jose Canseco was busted for attempting to smuggle drugs into Mexico. Canseco was detained by immigration officials at a San Diego Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility for prolonged hours because he possessed the Human chorionic gonadotropin, a female fertility medicine that aids in the production of testosterone. The substance is unlawful without a prescription and is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
As per Canseco's attorney, Gregory Emerson, the former MLB star was searched and detained by immigration officials owing to his PED-tainted past:
"Jose is really frustrated,” Emerson said. “I think he’s angry. Rather than have a reason to subject him to a search and detention, they did it because it was Jose Canseco. And that’s not fair.”

Canseco was also asked to appear in federal court.
Other than Jose Canseco, Manny Ramirez was caught using HCG
A year after Jose Canseco was detained for carrying Human chorionic gonadotropin, former MLB star Manny Ramirez was suspended for 50 games for using the female fertility drug in May 2009.
After a test during spring training indicated that Ramirez had high amounts of testosterone in his body, MLB conducted a more comprehensive test.

Before accepting the ban, Ramirez initially scheduled an appeal, which was later withdrawn by him. On July 3, 2009, Ramirez returned to the mound after serving his suspension and resumed his starting position with the Dodgers.
