Miguel Cabrera stood by Robinson Cano when he was suspended in 2020 after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. Cabrera vouched for Cano's innocence, venting his frustration at the MLB for what he felt was an unreasonable suspension.
Cabrera told The Detroit Free Press:
“He [plays] every day. He doesveverything right. Now everybody is going to write all this stupid sh–. I know Cano for a lot of years and I know he didn’t cheat. I’m f—ing mad right now.”
Furosemide, a substance that can be used to conceal performance-enhancing drugs, was found in Cano's system. It is on the league's list of prohibited substances.

Cano said in a statement that he took it after a registered doctor in his native Dominican Republic prescribed it to him for a medical condition.
“His doctor prescribed the medication. I think he got all the paperwork,” Cabrera said. “Why he get positive? I don’t understand that. If it’s something for him to get better."
Cabrera and Cano have both had illustrious MLB careers.
