In 2022, the MLB announced its penalties for the bench-clearing incident between the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals. Taijuan Walker of the Mets and Jack Flaherty of the Cardinals received fines for participation while on the injured list. Mets pitcher Yoan Lopez was also penalized for his role in the incident's instigation.
Walker apparently wasn't copied on the email because he didn't find out until Joel Sherman tweeted the outcome's update:
"Well damn this new to me" - Taijuan Walker
After learning the truth themselves, Mets supporters were certain to support Walker. Many others seemed eager to Venmo him the money to pay the fine based on Walker's response. Walker decided to give away some tickets as a token of his affection.
"Man @Mets fans are the best!! Y’all don’t have to send me any Venmo’s just know ima always ride my team no matter what!! Ima give away some tickets for the game Saturday" - Taijuan Walker
Taijuan Walker is an MLB All-Star
Walker made his MLB debut in 2013 and pitches for the Philadelphia Phillies. He has previously played in the MLB for the New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Seattle Mariners. In 2021, Walker was an All-Star after making his MLB debut in 2013.
Walker and the Philadelphia Phillies reached a four-year, $72 million deal on December 16, 2022.
Walker participated in the 2023 World Baseball Classic for Mexico. On March 14, he made his debut against Great Britain. Throughout four innings, he allowed only one hit while striking out eight.
He and the Phillies will be hoping for a decent 2023 season, even though most aren't expecting them to challenge for the World Series. Sometimes the underdog tag can take the pressure off a team and Philadelphia will be hoping that's the case.
