It's been a bounce-back year for the New York Yankees. After missing the 2023 postseason, the Bronx Bombers find themselves atop the American League East and are World Series contenders.
That said, the entire Yankees roster has not had smooth sailing. While some players have showcased their talent, others have failed to deliver this summer.
Which Yankees players' stocks are up/down?
Yankees players' stocks that have risen
#1 - Jazz Chisholm Jr.
The prize of New York's trade deadline, Jazz Chisholm Jr. has seen his stock skyrocket since making his way to the Bronx. The 26-year-old Bahamian has been dynamic throughout his MLB career. However, Jazz has found greater success since leaving the Miami Marlins.
"Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s 9th HR as a Yankee cuts the deficit in half" - @MLB
Despite missing time due to injury, Jazz has posted a .304 batting average with nine homers through 20 games with his new club. Given his early success with the team, Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s stock has clearly risen.
#2 - Austin Wells
Wells continues to show his coveted prospect status since being taken in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft. The catcher and designated hitter is having an excellent season for the club. At 25 years old, Wells' success may have cemented him as the team's catcher of the future.
Yankees players' stocks that have fallen
#1 - DJ LeMahieu
It's safe to say that DJ LeMahieu's best days are behind him. After finding himself in the MVP conversation in 2019 and 2020, LeMahieu looks like a shell of his former self. With a .525 OPS this season and two years, $30,000,000 remaining on his contract, LeMahieu may be more of a detriment than an asset.
#2 - Alex Verdugo
After opening his debut season with the New York Yankees on a hot streak, veteran outfielder Alex Verdugo has seen his stock drop as the year has progressed. Although he still sees regular at-bats for the team, it remains to be seen if his decline will continue in the postseason.
"Any major discourse about Alex Verdugo jogging down the line twice a week, or do we only save this for certain players?" - @MikeDro_
His .234 batting average represents a career-low since becoming a consistent MLB player. An unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, his Yankees future could be in doubt.
