The World Series Most Valuable Player Award, often called the World Series MVP Award, is one of the prestigious awards in Major League Baseball (MLB). This award is presented to the player who has contributed the most in helping his team to win the World Series games. Notably, the World Series is the final stage of a MLB season where the last two teams of the season fight it out to become the MLB Champion for the season.
The World Series MVP award was first awarded in 1955 to Johnny Podres of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Since then, it has been presented every season except 1994 when the series was canceled due to the player’s strike. The award was then renamed the Willie Mays World Series MVP award in 2018 and has used the name since then. Each season has also crowned one of the players from the winning team as the World Series MVP.
