Francisco Lindor's wife Katia didn't pull any punches when slamming Jason Kipnis after his remarks about his former "veteran" teammates and their "lack of leadership" while speaking of the New York Mets' struggles this season.
Lindor chose not to get involved in a public spat but Katia wasn't afraid to speak her mind on Twitter. She defended her husband and also called Kipnis a "bully":
“My husband is such a classy person, would never say what a bully Kipnis was in the clubhouse. Sounds like a true leader vs. the opposite of a leader.”
Kipnis played for the Cleveland Guardians from 2011 to 2019. He was teammates with Lindor for five seasons during this span.
However, Kipnis seemed to call out Lindor for his poor start to the season with the Mets this campaign. On the Foul Territory podcast this week, with former catcher AJ Pierzynski, he said:
"I'm gonna repeat it again. All those veterans and no leadership. If everybody is a veteran there, you're kinda just under the assumption that everybody is taking care of their business and going about the things the right way."
When Lindor was asked what he felt about Kipnis' comments, he took the high ground and said:
"I haven't talked to him (Kipins). That's how he feels. It is what it is. I don't really have much to say,".
Francisco Lindor's stats in 2023 MLB season
Francisco Lindor has had a fairly average start to the 2023 MLB season. The shortstop has recorded 42 hits and six home runs at a .235 average with four stolen bases.
However, the New York Mets have struggled to get their act right and are currently in third place on the NL East table with 23 wins and 23 defeats.
The Mets and Lindor will be hoping to string together a run of positive results in order to remain in contention for the playoffs.
