Giancarlo Stanton is unquestionably one of the strongest batters in Major League Baseball. His short swing makes it seem like he barely needs to try in order to send the baseball into the crowd. The New York Yankees' ability to pair him with Aaron Judge back-to-back may make them the most feared duo in the MLB.
While his power is undeniable, so is his track record with injuries. The hulking Giancarlo Stanton has struggled to remain healthy for an entire season. Given the fact that Stanton is prone to injuries, he has spent the majority of his time with the Yankees as their designated hitter.
Now, given the questions surrounding the lack of depth in left field, Yankees manager Aaron Boone has announced the possibility of Stanton returning to the outfield on a more frequent basis.
"Aaron Boone said that he is considering using Aaron Judge in left field at Yankee Stadium so Giancarlo Stanton can play right field - What are your thoughts on this?" - Yankees Coverage
“I am of the belief that him playing in the outfield is good for his game, but I also think it’s good for his health,” Boone said. “I think it’s good that he’s, when healthy, not just a DH.”
While the theory behind the potential move to right field makes sense, the risk of losing Stanton for an extended period could prove to be costly for the Yankees. During his 13-year MLB career, the 6'6" slugger has played more than 150 games only three times.
"You’re an athlete. Let’s go play. I don’t want to hear about load management and all this" Boomer is very annoyed at having to hear about Stanton's potential to play the outfield this season:" WFAN Sports Radio
If Stanton were to miss time, the Yankees would need to look at Aaron Hicks and Oswaldo Cabrera to play in the outfield.
